✨ Key Insights from Vince Chew’s Panel
The New Cyber Battlefield: AI vs. AI
“Cyber warfare is entering an autonomous era – humans won’t be in the room. Victory belongs to those with superior AI models.”
– Vince Chew, COO of Evvo Labs
The convergence of AI and blockchain creates powerful new capabilities, but it also introduces a new frontier for cyber risks – some risks are evolutions of existing threats, while others are entirely novel. In the future, it will be AI vs AI where humans from both sides of the alley (defender and attacker) no longer need to be involved. Whoever has the better AI model will win the battle.
These are some of the emerging risks:
- AI-Powered Attacks on Blockchain Systems: We’re seeing AI being used to identify vulnerabilities in smart contracts or blockchain protocols at an unprecedented speed and scale. There are more sophisticated phishing attacks targeting crypto-asset holders or AI-driven attempts to manipulate consensus mechanisms. Human is still the weakest link in the cybersecurity ecosystem
- Data Poisoning affecting AI Model Integrity): If an AI model is used to validate transactions or manage data on a blockchain, compromising that AI through data poisoning could have severe consequences for the integrity of the blockchain itself. There will also be attacks against AI Oracles feeding data to smart contracts.
- Vulnerabilities in Decentralized Governance: While decentralization can enhance security, poorly implemented governance models in DAOs can be exploited, potentially leading to unauthorized control or fund persion.
- Privacy Leaks Despite Pseudonymity: While blockchains offer pseudonymity, AI can be used to de-anonymize participants by analyzing transaction patterns and correlating them with off-chain data. This is where we see a strong case for privacy-enhancing technologies like ZKPs. We design and help implement solutions that leverage ZKPs to enable transaction or data verification on-chain without revealing sensitive underlying information, directly countering AI-driven de-anonymization attempts.
Evvo Labs is addressing the emerging risks by:
- We continuously research emerging threats, developing specialized security assessment methodologies for AI/blockchain systems, and providing solutions that range from secure development lifecycle consulting to advanced threat detection and incident response tailored to these converged technologies..
- Our threat intelligence services are using AI to predict and identify these sophisticated attack patterns. We provide smart contract auditing and penetration testing that specifically simulates AI-driven attack vectors.
- What we offer to our clients is to advise them on how to secure the AI development lifecycle, including robust data validation and model verification processes. For clients using AI with blockchain, we assess the security of data feeds (Oracles) and help implement mechanisms to detect and mitigate AI model manipulation.
- We help clients design and audit governance smart contracts and processes to minimize such risks.
✨ The Trust Imperative: Accountability + Privacy
